For all of you out there that want things quicker and easier, this might help you out!

Our resident hackers have come up with a way to quickly build a Twitterfountain without having to visit the Twitterfountain-site and going through all the settings! Simply type in the url http://twitterfountain.com/custom/yourkeyword and replace yourkeyword with the hashtag or keyword of your choice.

Try these to see how they work:

http://twitterfountain.com/custom/obama

http://twitterfountain.com/custom/ladygaga

http://twitterfountain.com/custom/chatroulette

Adding a custom image search

When you don’t want the image keyword to be the same as the twitter search keyword, you can add a slash and then add your image keyword, for example:

http://twitterfountain.com/custom/luigi/supermario

About using hashags in the URL

Currently you can’t use a # character in the URL bar, please replace this character with %23. You can also leave the hash out entirely if your keyword is unique enough.

Example: http://twitterfountain.com/custom/%23supermario

Behind the scenes, we have been working together with the great people at Mindz.com for a while. Some of the results have been visible already: the all new Twitterfountain2.0 was made possible by them.

Mindz.com is a social network that helps individuals build their brands, alongside of their network. Users can easily create networks, events and organize their networks with Mindz.com. Mindz.com has been gaining ground for some time. Co-founder Ronald van den Hoff blogged about their ever increasing reach recently (Dutch article), they now have over a 1000 unique daily visitors and are growing into the top ten of popular social networks in The Netherlands.

Yesterday saw some more news: the integration of Twitterfountain in the events-section of Mindz.com. When users create a new event, they can simultaneously create an accompanying Twitterfountain bu simply entering the appropriate hastags. The Twitterfountain is then created on the fly and added tot the page for the event.

I created a few screen shots for your enlightenment and pleasure:

Here’s a great way to use Twitterfountain in the office:

One neat thing I’ve been doing with this is setting it to run fullscreen on a computer in public view in the office. You’ll need to change the settings so the tweets arrive slowly enough and display large enough to read. I’ve been throwing in search terms related to products or campaigns we’re working on; it’s a neat way to see what people are talking about right NOW.

Embedding a Twitterfountain on your own website is pretty easy using our ‘copy widget’ feature. Since most fountains we’ve seen are embedded into WordPress pages or posts, we figured we could make it even easier. So we put our resident code wizard on the job and he came up with the Twitterfountain WordPress Plugin !!!

Twitterfountain WordPress Plugin
Download from the WordPress Extend website

The plugin does two things for you:

It adds an ‘TF’ button to your visual editor, allowing you to easily customize and embed a Twitterfountain into your blogpost or page.

It adds a configurable Twitterfountain ‘widget’, to use in your WordPress theme’s sidebar (provided the theme you are using supports widgets).

Installing the plugin:

Download the plugin and unzip it.

Upload the extracted ‘twitterfountain’ folder to your
/wp-content/plugins/ folder.

Activate the plugin.

Update:

Our plugin has been accepted by WordPress and is now hosted on the WordPress Extend pages. Please go ahead and download it over there. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Says Killerstartups.com:

TwitterFountain offers some very cool visuals. The combination of Tweets and Flickrs, while done before, hasn’t been done in this manner. It’s compelling, it’s hypnotic. It’s just plain spectacular. Makes plain old text backchannels look completely boring and old school.
